Talks and Demos
The notebooks listed here include some of the talks and presentations I have
given over the past two years.
International Congress on
Differential Geometry
- Technical Computing with
Mathematica: talk on technical computing and technical communication
focusing on new features in Mathematica 4.0 and 4.1. Keynote talk
given at Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales in Bilbao Spain on
18 September 2000.
Brazil, October 2000
- Mathematics, Mathematica 4, and Beyond...:
numerics, symbolics, and programming are featured in this survey of Mathematica
and its use in mathematics research. Talks given at several locations in
Brazil during the Fall of 2000, including UNESP San Jose de Rio Preto,
Instituto Technologico de Aeronautico, University Federal of Rio de Janeiro,
Instituto de Mathematica Pura e Applicade, Brazilian Physics Research
Institute.
California Mathematics Council of
Community Colleges South
- Exploring Mathematics and
Science with Mathematica: presentation on using Mathematica
to teach mathematics at the undergraduate level. Includes examples and
discussion of tools for developing courseware. Talk given at CMC^3 South
Conference in Costa Mesa California, 10 February 2001.
Supporting Materials
- Pascal's Triangle: notebook
that discusses various explorations surrounding Pascal's triangle.
- Kakeya-Besicovitch Problem: discussion
of the Kakeya-Besicovitch problem, a simple problem touching upon topics in
geometry including hypocycloids and Perron trees.
- Introduction to Programming:
a brief introduction to the programming paradigms available in Mathematica;
includes many examples of recursive, functional, iterative, rule-based, and MathLink
programming.
