"Browsing" and "reference" editions are available below.

In the browsing edition, nodes are referred to by the titles of the various articles and questions, and one can browse through the Info menus looking for interesting subjects. In the reference edition, each element of the Summa is given its traditional citation, such as "Sth II-II q 36 a 3 ad 1", so that traditional references may be looked up easily.

When more Catholic resources are available in texinfo, I'll convert the Summa's cross-references to Info format.

Installation

You can either download the info files and install them, or you can download the texinfo sources, run makeinfo, and install your own info files.

• The easy installation:
  • Download one of the the info files tarballs.
  • Extract the gzipped tarball, which will create a directory "summa-browse-info-files" or "summa-ref-info-files".
  • Enter the directory and copy all the info files to a directory on your Info path. To see your Info path, type:

    C-h v Info-default-directory-list 

  • Add the appropriate line to the "dir" file in your Info directory:

    * Summa: (summa). Browsing edition of the Summa Theologiae of St. Thomas Aquinas.

    * Sth: (Sth). Reference edition of the Summa Theologiae of St. Thomas Aquinas.

  • If Info is running, you will need to kill its buffer and type 'C-h i' again to see the new Info menu item(s).
• The less-easy installation:
  • Download one of the texinfo tarballs.
  • Extract the gzipped tarball, which will create a directory "summa-browse-texi-files" or "summa-ref-texi-files".
  • Enter the new directory, visit the file "summa.texi" in Emacs, type C-c C-c, and run makeinfo (you should use makeinfo v4).
  • Get some coffee.
  • Drink it. Slowly.
  • When makeinfo is done, install the generated info files as above.
