When I'm next in the office, I'll start a new blog and move the daily readings over to it. It'll have (I think) the 1950s Dominican Martyrology, commentaries from the Catena aurea on the day's Gospel, and perhaps the day's second reading from the Office of Readings from the Liturgy of the Hours, and, of course, other relevant etexts as I find them. I have a couple of questions for you, Gentle Reader:
The Rule of Saint Benedict, which the sons of Benedict have helpfully divided into daily readings.
Posted by: Bill White at August 2, 2003 10:57 AMI've long thought somebody ought to marry the day's Gospel with the associated Catena. (I know part of the Catena aurea is online. I wonder if they finished that project).
Anyway, whatever you call it, it's a nice addition to blogdom. I'd try to call it something such that non-Catholics would serendipitiously find it in a search engine, since exposure to the early Fathers may be helpful to them.
Posted by: TS O'Rama at August 4, 2003 08:53 AMI have etexts of the Catena's Luke and John, so given enough continuous oomph it could be done. The late Fr. John Rotelle did something similar with each Sunday's Gospel and the writings of S. Augustine - I found it at St. Meinrad's last month. It's a fresh translation and a pretty handy work.
I like the non-Catholic slant. The number of Protestants googling for "lectio divina" is presumably rather small. Can you think of a good name? The Fathers belong to them, too, whether they know it or not.
Come to think of it, I'll have to be careful to cite each passage from the Gospels. I get a lot of google hits from folks looking for things of the form "Matthew 14:1-12".
I think we need a former Prot to come up ideas for a title, somebody who knows what might catch a lot of hits. Of course we want RCC'rs too. Good idea about mentioning the bible passage.
"Gospel of the Day" sounds a little prosaic but was my first reaction. Maybe "Daily Gospel Reading". "Scripture Commentary from the Early Christians" might be a bit long.

I'll keep pondering--right now I'm too "crippled" by these inky-dinky riddle forms that Tom's got going at Disputations.
