Speaking of NICU information, much of the printed material the NICU folks are required to hand out reads like this:
Hi.
I am your new baby.
Sometimes I cry.
When I cry I might need a new diaper.
Not exactly helpful.

These are the babies who are premature because mom had no clue that she was pregnant, or that she should quit smoking, or that getting a sexually transmitted infection during pregnancy might cause problems.
Writing educational materials for low literacy is much harder than writing them for educated folks. I know, I've done it. If one can write for the least educated, one can then expand as needed for the more educated folk. The reverse is unfortunately not true.
Glad to hear that your munchkin is doing as well as can be expected. Premies put parents on such a roller coaster ride!
