Sad to see him go

We had to toss out a CD today: Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit. I picked it up somewhere back in the mid '90s and didn't really "get" it at the time; when we played it this morning it was grand! Until the scratches took over. Kids and CDs don't mix.

Next up on the Monday "cleanup around the house" playlist: Miles Davis, Seven Steps to Heaven; not my favorite of the 60's quintet with Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter & Tony Williams (+ 1997), but it'll do in a pinch.

they used to say that CDS, unlike vinyl, were scratch proof.
How is your youngest daughter? Doing OK in the NICU? and your wife as well.
Thought about you guys last week - we had to do an emergency cesarean on a 28 week baby who is doing wonderfully - just has trouble remembering when to breathe but that will straighten out with time.

Heh - I remember some extravagant claims about CDs back in the early 80s. Sometimes the scratches are fun. We had the Crash Test Dummies album with "Superman's Song", which the kids loved. There was a bit where the scratches would make the thing skip so that it seemed to be playing twice as fast and that would send them into a fit of maniacal dancing. It seemed the scratches got worse, though, and we even had to throw that one out. That hurt. I'll need to find it again somewhere. There are few lovelier songs than their "Superman's Song". You can even read a bit of Christology into it if you squint a little.

3nd degree connection to the Crash Test Dummies - the Roberts brothers' mother and my Canadian TeX friend Shelly went to the same hair salon when Shelly lived in Winnipeg. Since it's Stream of Consciousness Wednesday here at Summa Minutiae, I'll also note that Winnipeg has the coldest winters of any city with a population over 100,000, according to a Winnipeg filmmaker I heard recently on NPR who tried to shoot a film in the winter in an unheated Winnipeg soundstage. He says they're all ready for global warming up there. Me too.

This middle of the night blogging is strange, no?

I'll post an update about the baby when I've had some more sleep. She's doing great!

Have you tried one of those Disc Washer devices? A consumer reporter on the telly said they really do work remedying scratches, etc. Our library has one and I was going to send some disks to work with Em for her to 'fix,' but now it's broken. Oh, well.

Keep us posted on the little sweetheart! God Bless!

Metaphysics is the finding of bad reasons for what we believe upon instinct, but to find these reasons is no less an instinct.
