The Apostle Phoebe

I'm not sure what they're teaching kids out in Scotch Plains, NJ at Union Catholic High School, but I think someone needs to work on the list of the Apostles:

The "problem" is that the Twelve were not all the apostles there were ---"Apostle" =/= "One of the Twelve." There were others who were sent out with the good news and who were eyewitnesses to the resurrection (the definition of an apostle) who were not of the Twelve. Most famously Paul, but also the Seventy, and Mary Magdalen, and Thecla, and Phoebe, among others.

That's part of why we trust the magisterium about the ordination of women --- it's not possible to prove the case from Scripture by itself, where there are female judges and prophets in the Old Testament, and female apostles, disciples, deacons, and founders and heads of local churches populating the New Testament.

This wider usage of the word ("the Apostle So-and-So", where So-and-So is neither Paul nor one of the Twelve) is new to me. Is there a difference between "apostles" and "the Apostles"? Baby's crying, can't think further at the moment. More comments, please :-)
