Christendom resurgent?

I've been pleasantly surprised by the tone of the Pope's recent statements on European history. He seems to be entreating Europeans to return, not just to the Church, but to Christendom (roughly speaking; I don't have the links handy at the moment). If you've noticed this, too, perhaps you can elaborate since you no doubt can write much better than I can :-)

If I have a chance I'll take a look at the sources, pull them together and boil them down.

Wasn't it Chesterton who said that he welcomed a return to paganism because that would mean a subsequent return to true Christianity? Maybe Europe has bottomed out and is ready to return to the Faith.

This may be the quote you're thinking of:

I am very glad that our fashionable fiction seems to be full of a return to paganism, for it may possibly be the first step of a return to Christianity. Neo-pagans have sometimes forgotten, when they set out to do everything the old pagans did, that the final thing the old pagans did was to get christened. --Illustrated London News, 3/20/1926

Meanwhile, I'm not so sure that we've hit bottom. We haven't yet seen, say, the return of temple prostitution or the public performance of abortions as a religious rite, but we'll get there yet.

Wait - I seem to remember a report about public abortions performed at some womyn's conference a few years back and the celebratory display of the murdered child in a jar. Anyone remember that?

Who can think of some other monstrosities our children will see?

Bill,
Greetings,
I don't know if you saw, but I posted quite a bit when Pope John Paul II was here in Madrid, comments, and articles. Maybe that can help you.

This is a lot easier then you might think. The first time I went to a poker site, like most of you, I was very eager to get started immediately.

Metaphysics is the finding of bad reasons for what we believe upon instinct, but to find these reasons is no less an instinct.
