Yet another reason to homeschool

That is just sooo horrifying.

Thirty years ago, when I was in high school, I wouldn't say teen culture was especially kind. But no one would stoop to picking on a kid with one leg. (And we had a classmate who lost a leg to cancer and eventually died.)

As I get older I get more distressed at the thought of what we put some kids through in school. Usually poorer or recently moved to the area or non-conforming in some way or another. I don't like thinking about those times, especially if I put myself in the victims' place.

The thing that amazes me is that these are the days of schools that teach tolerance and diversity. But things are getting worse, not better.

The new shibboleths. We tolerate that which we approve of and have diverse collections of the right sorts of people.

Or rather, you must tolerate that which we approve, regardless of your view of the matter, and you must associate with the people we approve of.

Metaphysics is the finding of bad reasons for what we believe upon instinct, but to find these reasons is no less an instinct.
